Associate Director, Web/UX Design

Our team is growing and we are looking for an Associate Director, Web/UX Design to join our team of talented professionals. This is a new role and an exciting opportunity to lead and manage a team to create and develop a dynamic website for a monthly digital publication.

The Associate Director, Web/UX Design provides strategic leadership, vision, concepting, and expertise for our client digital publication. This position works across departments and is responsible for leading a team to develop and create a dynamic digital user and brand experience website for our client’s monthly digital publication. In addition, this position creates digital layouts, wireframes, or other digital elements while keeping with the design aesthetics of our client parameters.

Job Duties

  • Collaborate across departments to implement digital web design standards, messaging and processes to produce consistent, high quality results, while ensuring user-centered design approaches according to client needs
  • Develop and create website for monthly digital publication while keeping with the design aesthetics of our client parameters
  • Create an aesthetic digital design and deliver on brand strategy and message
  • Attend and lead progress meetings to help brainstorm ideas and report on work progress
  • Develop high level, detailed web design mock-ups and prototypes to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas
  • Submit completed work for approval and re-design as directed until work has met client expectations. (note: this may be in contrast to your personal taste)
  • Build best practices, workflows and processes to drive improved planning, prioritization and communication to better meet fast-paced, high-volume and high-quality demands and deadlines
  • Manage staff in a manner that facilitates teamwork and ensures deadlines are met, and produces quality work
  • Continually focus on improving and re-evaluating the best digital user experience
  • Mentor junior staff and provide support and feedback to help them advance
  • Provide clear, concise, and direct feedback and design critique
  • In cooperation with department staff, determine appropriate assignments and allocation of work
  • Remain up-to-date on marketplace, industry and design trends, including insights into cultural trends, competition and target audiences
  • Work in a collaborative manner to meet client deadlines
  • Record and track your time within the system for each project you are working on
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Web Design/Development, Graphic Design, Computer Science, Digital Media, or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
  • Minimum (5) years’ professional experience in web development, digital, and/or UX design
  • Strong leadership skills; proven successful experience in supervising, mentoring and team building
  • Expert knowledge in web design and CMS, with a strong emphasis on UI, UX, and web standards
  • Experience with HTML/CSS; JavaScript
  • Portfolio demonstrating proficiency in skill and a sophisticated sense of design
  • Expert fluency in Adobe Creative Suite with advanced web and digital design skills
  • Solid understanding of the elements of web development and design
  • Able to adapt skill to the aesthetics of each project
  • Flexibility and the ability to adjust to the needs of clients
  • Able to interpret editorial direction and vision to align visual design with digital magazine content
  • Exceptional problem solving and critical thinking skills; able to balance multiple priorities and demands simultaneously
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Able to work collaboratively while maintaining high standards
  • Maintains a positive attitude and support that attitude among junior staff, even while working under pressure in an environment where job demands are constantly changing
